The victim reported being pushed into a wall by a suspect who took his money and fled on foot. No weapon was displayed and the victim sustained a bruise to the head. No arrest was made in this case.

Four on campus aggravated assaults were reported in 2003
Three aggravated assaults occurred between married couples and/or cohabitants. One aggravated assault occurred as a result of a dispute over a parking space. Three cases were cleared by arrests and no medical treatment was desired by any of the victims. The weapons used were fists, feet, teeth or blunt objects.

Burglary was up from 52 cases in 2002 to 78 in 2003

Bicycle theft was up from 57 cases in 2002 to 132 in 2003
A bicycle registration program will be implemented on January 1st 2004 in an effort to reduce bike theft and increase the number of bikes recovered and returned to their owners. A bicycle’s serial number is entered in a state DMV system that can link a registered bike to the proper owner. This feature is helpful for officers attempting to verify if a suspect is in possession of a stolen bike.

Other theft was up from 213 cases in 2002 to 237 in 2003
A significant portion of these thefts involved property that was left unattended or left in plain view. Popular items included purses, cell phones, CD’s, backpacks, books, audio equipment and computer equipment.

Motor vehicle theft was up from 28 cases in 2002 to 38 in 2003

10 cases of arson were reported in 2003
In February and November of 2003, a suspect set fire or attempted to set fire to toilet paper dispensers in various bathrooms on campus (six of these cases occurred on one date). No one was hurt and damage was limited to the bathroom stalls.

Other offenses were up from 327 cases in 2002 to 382 in 2003.
Simple assaults were up from 25 offenses in 2002 to 39 in 2003.
Vandalism was down from 73 offenses in 2002 to 68 in 2003.
Narcotics violations were up from 23 cases in 2002 to 54 in 2003.
Driving under the influence was up from 18 in 2002 to 44 in 2003.
Vehicle code violations were down from 78 in 2002 to 77 in 2003.
Arrests And Activity
Arrests were up from 184 for 2002 to 263 in 2003. Approximately 19% of those arrested (50) were affiliated with the University.
UC Riverside officers issued 553 citations for moving violations in 2003.
There were 26 traffic accidents reported, a decrease of fourteen.
Weapons related cases were up from 8 in 2002 to 10 in 2003. Of the ten weapons related cases, two involved firearms, four involved a knife or cutting instrument and four involved other dangerous weapons.
There were no gang related incidents.
There were 73 alcohol related cases in 2003, up by thirty-two from the 41 cases in 2002.
There were eleven domestic violence calls.
There were four bias motivated cases reported in 2003. Three were based upon sexual orientation and one was based upon religion.
